• World Dog Show is an annual dog show arranged under the aegis of Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI), which is the World Canine Organisation. It includes 84 members and contract partners (one member per country).
• World Dog Show has been arranged every year since the 1970’s.
• When taking place in Europe, World Dog Show is normally attended by about 15,000 – 20,000 dogs from about 50 countries worldwide at a single show.
Short facts about World Dog Show 2008
• World Dog Show 2008 is arranged by Svenska Kennelklubben(The Swedish Kennel Club). It is the first time the show has taken place in Sweden. Svenska Kennelkubben could not apply for the show until recently due to the strict rules for quarantine previously enforced in Sweden.
• World Dog Show 2008 will be held at the Stockholm International Fairs in Älvsjö the 3rd–6th of July.
• 82 breed clubs will arrange their own international shows in a so called circuit in the vicinity of Stockholm during the week. Most shows will be at Almare-Stäket north of Stockholm.
• The World Championship in Obedience will be held the 4th–6th of July At Stockholm International Fairs. The 75 best obedience dogs and their handlers will compete for the title World Winner Obedience.
• World Championships in Junior Handling is also arranged during the World Dog Show. Competitors, aged 10–17 years, from about 20 countries will compete.
• Competitions in freestyle (HTM) will take place daily in the final ring. Freestyle means that the handler together with the dog performs a choreographed obedience program to music.
• 118 judges from all around the world will judge at World Dog Show in Stockholm. Counting also the judges at the breed clubs shows there will be 276 judges in Stockholm that week.
• Main sponsors are Agria Pet Insurance and Purina Proplan.
• World Dog Show 2008 has a budget of around 20 million SEK (2 million euro).
